Day 11

Tour of York Minster
I met a lady at the theatre in Keswick who told me I absolutely must visit York Minster.
She was not wrong. York Minster was a feast for the eyes and ears - the stained glass windows were enormous and the church bells rung at all times of the day. After a guided tour of York Minster, we were free the rest of the day. I wandered through the Shambles and bought some British candies (barley sugar, sherbet pips, toffee bon bons and extra strong mints) at the sweet shop. I found my way to the top of the walls to have a look around. Then, I met up with two gracious ladies in our group to enjoy a proper afternoon tea at Bettys Café Tea Rooms. I bided my time in the York Art Gallery and edible gardens before heading back to York Minster for evensong at 5:15 pm. Something special was planned for today's evensong - a service for the Society of Ploughmen. We even got to witness a live horse enter the church!
